Mental Health and Well-being Declaration

Here at The Soul Man, we place importance on mental health and well-being being a priority and focus for everyone in The Soul Man community. 

We have a responsibility to everyone who interacts with us to make sure that we demonstrate responsible and accountable behaviours, and are aware of our limits as readers and teachers. 

We are aware that in the spiritual industry, many people look for guidance and insight, and a percentage of these people may be in a vulnerable place (grieving, feeling lost, mental health challenges and so on). We feel strongly that we have a clear responsibility to ensure any vulnerable person who engages with us is looked after appropriately and, if needed, signposted to trained professionals (individual or organisations) who can help and support them in the way they need. 

Kindness, compassion, empathy, honesty, consideration, respect, and understanding underpin everything we do and how we work with others in our shop for readings, in our academy for training, and at any event or situation we interact with the public.


At The Soul Man we have committed to the following:

  • Mental Health First Aid training for our team.

  • Suicide Prevention training for our team.

  • Ensuring regular mental health awareness training happens with all our team members.

  • Creating a safe space for everyone.

  • Actively ensuring any member of the public who enters through our doors (in person or online) for a reading and training are feeling comfortable and ready.

  • Supporting our readers and team members so that they are in the best place possible for our customers, students and public.

  • Continuing to learn and develop so that we can offer the best service possible to our The Soul Man Community.

  • Keep in contact with professionals in the field to ensure we operate in a responsible and appropriate manner.

Kindness

The centre of everything we are, we are powered by kindness. Everything we do comes back to being kind. the way we speak to each other and our customers should always be kind and compassionate.

Respect

We must respect each other's feelings in the way we act and speak. Always remembering that even if we need to be honest and have difficult conversations at times, that it is done with kindness.

Empathy

Having the ability to be empathetic and consider each other's feelings and putting ourselves in the other person's shoes is always at the forefront of our minds at work - showing true empathy rather than sympathy.

Consideration

Careful thought, typically over a period of time. Gathering your own feelings about how something is making you feel and speaking about things rather than letting them fester. Think how the other person may be feeling.

Honesty 

Above all, always being honest and speaking about things as they happen, not ignoring how we feel but always using all of the above when we have to talk to each other. Remembering to treat each other with kindness, respect, empathy, consideration and honesty.

Understanding

Understanding how others may be feeling, especially if they have been stressed, or acted in a way that may make you feel uncomfortable. We will cultivate a positive working relationship with them and each other.
